Why do you want to be an entrepreneur ?

September 20, 2007 · Posted in Entrepreneurship

If you are a regular to my blog, chances are that you are interested in entrepreneurship. And if not one already, you are hoping to become an entrepreneur ’sometime soon’.

So, here’s my question to you — what motivates you to become an entrepreneur ?

Please spare a few minutes and take this poll to let us know why you want to be an entrepreneur. It’d be interesting to see what results we get from the poll. (If you think that there need to be additional options to the poll, let me know)

This is an interesting post. The vote as of now leads for the option wherein people want to make more money.
I believe this certainly is not the best approach. With my experiences what i have learnt is that until and unless you make something meaningful money wont come.
I feel its very important for budding entrepreneurs to get the basics right.

    Cheers,
    Vaibhav

I agree. Another option that deserves a place here is “Passion for creating/building something new”. Looking at the probability of making big mula through your own gig, you would be better off being employed at a company.

    Regards,
    Unmesh.

I think is a combination of all the options given there. Money obviously is the driver. But for me being my own boss is also a very important factor to get started. (Obviously I don’t want to be Boss who doesn’t have any money). Like Unmesh, I will also like to add option passion of creating something new.

    @unmesh @akash

added ‘passion to create something new’ as an option.

Akash, the goal is the vote the biggest motivator. As you say, obviously, no one would like to be their own boss and be poor…but the key is to identify the biggest driver.

    One important option missing…
    - Make Meaning ( Art of the Start, Guy Kawasaki )

BTW, we went to college together ( RECT ). Hint : LTRC

I think that a 7th free option (Other) should have been given so that everyone can write exactly what he/she thinks & u can get most accurate feedback. Of course it would mean that u would have to do more effort at understanding others making this a more serious exercise.

As for me - “I have my own ideas & want to try them out. Dont want to implement whatever ideas big companies have.” (I dont think what i will try to do is something new [7th option])

“To Solve People’s Problem” is one option i would suggest you.

mahesh - I’d include that as part of create something new option…

Also, it’ll be a bit difficult to add a new option at this stage of the poll — bcos it may end up skewing the other results.
