Indian PC market grows by 20% in 1Q 2007



As per IDC India’s Quarterly report, domestic PC market in India grew 20% on a quarter to quarter basis. The total number of PCs reached 22 million units at end of March 2007. The installed base more than doubled in the last three years with a growth rate of 32.3%.

Hewlett Packard (HP) led the market with 21.2% share, HCL came second with 13.5% followed by Lenovo at third place with 9.5% market share. Desktop and laptop shipments grew at a rate of 6.3% and 73.1% respectively. In the desktop segment, HP came first, followed by HCL and Zenith. In the laptop segment, HP came first, followed by Lenovo and Toshiba came in third.

As per IDC country manager, Kapil Dev Singh, India now has one PC for every 50 citizens.
