I know I’ve been silent the last several days. The reason – I’ve been busy reading and learning about Django – a Web framework for Python. Yes…I wanted to take some time off and do some skills development of my own. I’ve worked with PHP and couple of PHP Web frameworks, but have never worked in Python. Till now that is. And working on Django the last few days has got me wondering why I was a Python virgin so far. Python is an amazingly easy and powerful language for web development. There are lots of development tools and frameworks out there. And did I mention, Python is very, very productive – I was able to write working code in very little time.
If you havent tried out Python yet, I’d definitely urge you to do so. If you’ve worked in both, PHP & Python, I’d like to hear which one you found better.
Ohh..and I’ll be back to writing shortly. For those who’ve evoked an interest in writing for StartupDunia, I’ll be getting in touch with you within the next 2-3 days. Sorry, have been swamped lately

Thanks for this evaluation of Django. I have myself been hesitant about using Python (other than running it for generating my sitemap) – having been a PHP enthusiast myself. This will get me a step closer to taking the dive.
Can you write a brief comparison between PHP and Python?
Thanks,
Unmesh.
Unmesh,
I found Python to be pretty expressive. Like, even if you dont know python, one glance at the code, and you kind of get the idea of whats going on.
Django was obviously, the reason why I tried out python.
While there are lot of feature differences one can highlight between the two (and this is very well documented elsewhere), in python I got a lot of working code written in a very short while – considering that i was still new to python. imagine if you have been working in python for some time.
just give it a shot with a small app — you’ll figure out for yourself why you should switch to python
Hi,
We’ve got an interesting blog written on a comparison of some frameworks at: http://blogs.srijan.in/2007/12/26/what-web-framework-should-you-use/.
Thanks,
Rahul
