iTasveer’s great attempts to break away from the herd

Thats how Ashish Goel (one of the founder of iTasveer) described (not verbatim) two new initiatives in an email earlier today.

In a previous post, I mentioned how various players need to innovate and set themselves apart from the pack - and after reviewing these two features from iTasveer, I think they not only set themselves apart from the pack, but they just set a whole new ball game for the online photo printing segment.

The two new features are:

1) A Flash based tool called Doodlepad. This tool gives the user the ability to add captions, text, borders, colors etc. to their photos. These remixed photos can then be used to create customized T-shirts, mugs, greeting cards etc. Think Zazzle, CafePress etc.
2) They’ve partnered with Microsoft to become the only Indian vendor for ordering photo prints directly from within Microsoft Vista OS. So, Vista users can order photo prints from iTasveer just by selecting a menu option. For a more detailed description, see here.  Vista is yet to spread its wings, but in my opinion,  this is a GREAT move by iTasveer.  Nobody can contest the penetration that Windows has in the PC / laptop segments (close to 90%). And by getting into such a partnership, they’ve just opened the doors to all the future Vista users. This move is nothing short of brilliant.  Picsquare et. al better find a way to counter this move from iTasveer before Vista goes prime time.

The primary feedback I have for Ashish is about the distracting yellow background. Bright yellow isnt a web safe color and makes the UI look a bit gawdy.
