The world over, online newspaper editions have tried unsuccessfully to deploy a subscription model – and have failed miserably. WSJ, NYT are some of the big names who’ve failed. Closer to home, NDTV, India Today have tried to get a paid subscription model going – only to revamp this strategy.
Business Standard, on the other hand, is planning to expand its paid subscription model to a wider scale. The annual fee will be Rs 149 for each of its eight verticals. Weekly newsletters for each vertical will also be available for Rs. 99 /- year.
They’ve also launched two additional sites: BSBazaar.com and BSTravelBazaar.com.
Wonder why they really need the ‘BS’ prefix everywhere.
