SnappyFingers – a Question and Answers search engine

SnappyFingers is a new startup out of Bangalore and calls itself a search engine for Question and Answers. Their crawler crawls and indexes Question and Answers and FAQ’s from across the Internet and provides a convenient, single point of search from their website.

The site is currently in beta and as per Chirayu, the founder, they have a database of 3 million questions in their search index.

The concept is really nice and has some pretty good potential but in its current form, there are a few shortcomings.

For example, a search for “Miami weather” shows some a few good results:

but also a few useless results:

They still need to tweak their indexing – querying algorithms to make the results more useful. None the less, I definitely like the idea.

Check it out.

  1. Pranav, I just did.
I tried 5 questions in simple English and all of them produced no results whatsoever.

I asked about the Delhi weather, Delhi temperature, “What is AMitabh Bachhan’s father called?” and finally, simply typed “Amitabh Bachchan”.
The results had nothing whatsoever to do with AB. See below:

What Can I Do To Avoid Spyware In The Future?
Update your operating system and internet browser with the latest “patches”, install a firewall to secure your internet connection from unauthorized users (I recommend Zonealarm), download only from sources you trust, set the security and/or privacy setting level in your browser to at least medium to avoid unauthorized downloading, back-up your files regularly and only open e-mails from sources that you trust.

I remember Askjeeves was a similar service, encouraged you to ask your questions in plain English with the difference that the answers were relevant.
Anyway, I am sure the algorithm will improve. How is this different from Askjeeves, BTW?
