LordsOfOdds inks deal with ESPN, launches microsite for Indian elections

lordsofodds.jpgLordsOfOdds, a startup based on prediction markets, has beat all odds and secured a multi year deal with ESPN to launch prediction games for ongoing sporting events. Users predict the outcomes of sporting events and are rewarded for their accuracy and participation. The game is currently using SMS and additional channels are in the works.

They have also launched a microsite for ‘crowd sourcing’ the election manifesto for the upcoming Indian elections. Users can create action items for the next government and these action items can be rated by rest of the community. Briefly put, tap the wisdom of the crowds to create an agenda for the incoming government.

The startup is in talks with several TV channels as well to create prediction based games in various verticals like entertainment, business etc.  They’re close to reaching profitability and have completely bootstrapped the company for now. Apps for Orkut and Facebook are also in the works.

I’ve to admit – when they launched, I was skeptical if they’d be able to generate sustainable revenues and pull it off. Going by their recent accomplishment, I’m glad that they’re proving me wrong. Nothing sweeter than hard earned and well deserved success.
