Guruji has launched two music related apps on Orkut (MusicG) and Facebook (GurujiMusic). The apps tie into Guruji’s Music search, which claims to have a database of 5 lakh songs in their collection.
I’m not really sure what the strategy is behind these apps. Such apps worked well for Chakpak in attracting new users and it fit into their strategy considering that they are an entertainment portal.
How do these apps benefit Guruji ? To attract new users to their search engine ? Or is Guruji slowly morphing more into a music / entertainment destination site ?

I simply don’t understand Guruji’s stratergy. On one side, they are trying to be a Search Engine and on another, they are creating directory pages to compete with the sites they are indexing. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rlz=1B3GGGL_enUS246US246&q=site%3Aguruji.com+inurl%3Awallpapers&btnG=Search
IMO with the image directories, apps and what not, they are trying to gain a “user base” to (a) show to investors that traffic is increasing and ads will bring revenue (b) Hoping that they will promote their search engine using these apps and other web properties.
The Orkut app has nothing else than links back to guruji for album names and song names. I don’t have any numbers, but I am sure that the recent growth in their traffic is because they let people download illegal music. They have direct links to the mp3 files.
Its a part of their “Music Search” marketing strategy! aren’t u aware of that yet? They have a feature called “music search”. If you wanna hear a son say, the latest “masakali” of A.R Rahman from Delhi 6, just typpe in “masaklai” in guruji music and you will get awesome results! You will get a list directing to the “masakali” play page of different sites! awesome na..!!
see it

maybe part of their music search marketing strategy — but werent they a search engine ?
are they morphing into a music search engine ?
This reeks of desperation. Minglebox has become an education site and Guruji is turning into an all-in-one portal. Sad that these companies cannot execute on their core focus and have to diversify into random areas.
They also promoted its Music Search on Zee Sa Re Ga Ma Pa (Hindi) 2009.
thanks for the post. I’ve been looking the web for some projects I am working on and came to find this. A great read.
