DogSpot.in is a site for dog lovers and owners in India. Create profiles for your dogs, share tips, learn how to become a breeder, locate local vets etc., learn about dog shows across India, interact with other dog owners etc.
While similar sites in US have been insanely popular, I am not sure if DogSpot will achieve a similar cult status in India.
Why ? Because its much more common and prevalent in US to own a dog, while its still not as commonplace in India. What do you think ?
I wish all dogs in the country could hear what you wrote when you say dogs are not “commonplace” in India and come out of their houses. I’m sure, they will fill the streets;), I mean literally. I’ve about 6 dogs in my building which houses 48 flats. Howz dat for a start?
The thing that I do agree is except dog shows there is no platform for dog lovers to interact, and a dog community provides that chance online. For dogspot.in it could be just a start, however, I read a lot of comments on it, and have seen lots of people who come to the site; some of them having their first experience online, and they do that, just to see the images of their dogs covered in the dog shows, to check out pets that are on sale, grooming tips, you name it.
What I love about dogspot.in is that it has integrated the community piece really well, and is not just a well-designed site waiting for traffic. It has its loyal base of users, growing steadily. Some of the cool features I see is to have the status of being available for mating, getting to know as soon as a new litter has arrived, getting updates of dog shows that I couldn’t attend.
All dog enthusiasts know that it is tough to find a mate for their dogs simply because breeders charge a bomb, and they always look for champion dogs. Dogspot.in offers the opportunity for dog owners to find a mate for their dogs. I do agree, as with any other community site, it has to reach the critical mass. But it has had a good start, and sooner than later, I am sure it will become a part of every dog’s life.
Dogspot has achieved what no other canine websites based in India could do.In a shot span of its age, it has become a very excellent portal for any dog related querries and the main thing being they attend all the important shows in India and give the userbase the glimpse of the dog shows in India. Questions asked are also growing intelleigent now a days and ina year they would be a bigger portal in this cyberspace.

having lived in both India and US — I can safely claim that owning a dog in India is still not as common a thing as in the US.
Now coming to Dogspot – I agree that they have executed quite well in terms of content generation etc. And there may be a untapped market in there. But how big is that market ?
American pet industry is a $34 billion market.

If Dogspot can get a loyal set of users, they could become evangelists for the site and help to spread the word around. This is a niche and untapped market in India. If Dogspot can become successful in this niche market — I’d be the first to offer kudos to them..
i am a dog lover but i dont have dog
I suggest to have in life time at least once one dog, u can understand the feeling of animals.
Strange enough for me a team of professoinals doing a nice work for mans best friend in the past,present and in future also.
