The online movie ticket market seems to be hotting up. Last week, Web18 announced that it had acquired a 60% stake in the movie ticketing company BigTree (which I wrote about here).
While BigTree never blew me away, BookEazy definitely makes a great first impression.
Worried that you will not get tickets to the new movie over the weekend ? Sick of reaching one-two hours early to book movie tickets ? BookEazy, a Pune based startup, intends to make your lives a bit easier by letting you book the movie tickets online.
The process is as simple as it gets. Select the movie you are interested in, select the date for which you want to book the tickets, select the number of tickets you want to book (currently, a maximum of 4). On the next screen, you are presented with all the theaters showing the movie for the selected date. Choose the theater and the show time you are interested in. Next, you get prompted to select the type of seat you want to book (eg. Gold/Silver etc.). They also show a layout of the seating arrangement available at the theater. I think this is a great feature from an end user perspective. You actually get an idea on where you’ll be seated during the movie.

Complete the booking process and they’ll SMS a booking code to your mobile phone. Just present this code at the theater and pay for the tickets whenever you arrive (even after the movie has started). BookEazy makes revenue by charging Rs 100/- for every 16 tickets and Rs 200/- for every 36 tickets booked through them. To prevent abuse, they also require you to pay a deposit fee of Rs. 595/- when you sign up.
As of now, they offer bookings only for a handful of theaters in Pune, with other theaters to be added soon.
When it comes to design and end user perspective, BookEazy is just brilliant. They have a simple, clean, crisp design. From the design and layout, it is evident that they have given a serious thought to the end user experience. They have strived to make the booking process as simple as possible.
