GroupM releases advertising forecast for Indian media

GroupM has released a research report ‘This Year, Next Year – India Media Forecasts’, which highlights the current as well as the forecast for 2009 for advertising spends across different Indian media.

Digital media is expected to reach Rs 850 crores in 2009 and also is projected to account for the larges Y-o-Y change (25%). For the 2008 year, digital media witnessed the largest Y0Y change of 74% with radio coming in second at 49%.

Entertainment, Education, FMCG, telecom (recession unaffected categories) accounted for 50% of the advertising spend in 2008, while recession impacted categories like real estate, infotech, financial services,retail etc. accounted for 27% of the total advertising spend in 2008.  For 2009, the former is projected to contribute 54% of the total advertising spend while the latter is forecast to contribute 23% to the total advertising spend.

The leading Indian advertisers in the digital space are: ICICI, Citibank, HSBC, LIC, Maruti, R-ADAG, Airtel, HUL, Naukri, Shaadi, BharatMatrimony, Nokia and MakeMyTrip.

  3. With education institutes contributing much towards ad spend and digital media growing by leaps and bounds websites having a regular flow of students stand to benefit the most. Also, the fact that IIMs CAT 09 is now online, websites offering online preparation services will rule the roost in MBA prep sector.
