28% of Indian mobile users accessed the Internet

While reading a story on digital marketing in India, came across a few interesting bits:

  • As per a study conducted by Nokia India and TNS India, Indian mobile users accessed Internet for 2.4 day a week as compared to 2.7 days a week via a PC
  • 28% accessed Internet as compared to 26% via PC’s
  • Internet advertising in India grew by 45%  in 2008 to touch Rs 363 crores (1.7% of the advertising pie)
  • Internet advertising in India is projected to grow at 25% in 2009

  1. Could you share the source which says “28% accessed mobile Internet as compared to 26% via PC’s”. I read this Mint article yesterday but I don’t seem to find any reference to this study.

When you translate the percentage to absolute numbers, it sounds very high – i.e. about 10 million use mobile internet in India? If it is true, it is good news.

We have seen growth in the traffic of oneindia.mobi but not to those levels :-(

  2. Yes, i didn’t find the information in the MINT article either. However, I found this link on the Nokia site…

  3. I went back to the print version. It is in the print version of the Mint article and not on the online version.

Yes, once 3G does become a reality and “affordable” there is no doubt mobile internet will be big but in today’s world I don’t think it is big.

  4. i provided the link in the story. Embedding here again:

if you cant access it for some reason, it might be the case that livemint is filtering access by country / ip.

  5. Mobile advertising would continue to grow as more and more mobile phone users get hooked on texting and mobile browsing.~.~

  6. mobile advertising would be the trend in the next few years because of the growth of mobile users.”*~
