Khojguru - an interesting approach to local search

Khojguru offers an interesting take on local search by marrying it with social features like friends, profiles etc.  At the surface, Khojguru appears to be just like any other local search site - you can search for restaurants, movie theaters, coffee shops etc in your city. Alongwith the regular fanfare like reviews, ratings etc., Khojguru offers some interesting new features. You can join a fan club for the particular service, view the menu / catalog online as well as talk to the merchant directly via a click 2 call feature. The listing also features coupons / discounts, which can be sent directly to your mobile via SMS.

The social component offers an interesting perspective on a local search site. You can see what services are popular amongst your friends and which ones they dont like. So, if a particular restaurant has been have reviewed positively by a friend, I would definitely check it out. At the same time, if a restaurant has been negatively reviwed by my friend, I know I should keep away from it.

The site is currently fully operational for the Delhi - NCR region while listings for other cities will be rolled out shortly.

Khojguru does face an uphill battle since the several competitors like Burrp, AskLaila, Metromela etc. already have a headstart in terms of the listings database. However, local search is still anyone’s game, with no clear, undisputed leader yet. Who knows - Khojguru might have that magic formula to hit a home run ?

I have met the founders of Khozguru.. and I bet they are going to this to a new level. Khozguru tries to engage users much better than other local search engines, hence they can go ahead in this war if they apply right startegies. My wishes to them!!

There are so many local search engines in the Indian market right now … I’d love to see one that does something a bit different that actually adds value. Today if you search for something local on Google they list it by default at the top … so essentially there has to be a value ad for me to circumvent google. We at SD are working on a direct navigation concept with accurate geo-mapping (sabcheez.com)… I’m not sure if this will add that value, but we’re going to let it out soon to see. I wish all the players in this market the best .
