Payment statistics from IRCTC for March 2008

April 3, 2008 · Posted in Stats and Numbers

Nilesh has compiled an amazing set of graphs from the latest payment statistics released by Indian Railways IRCTC website for the month of March 2008.

For the uninitiated, this data is pretty interesting because IRCTC happens to be India’s biggest e-commerce website. This data can be used to extrapolate and get an insight into the e-commerce statistics in India.

  • Of the cash cards, ITZ Cash card accounted for 51% while DONE card accounted for 47% while TRANS I card accounted for 2% of the transactions
  • Transactions via Citibank PG had a pretty high rate of failure

There are a few additional charts over at Nilesh’s blog. Hop on over there to review the rest.

Cash Card transactions are 28%, because most of the Travel Agents use cash card, and a lot of people who don’t have internet access, book tickets through agents.

Surprised with the high usage of cash cards. I had never used one till now. Also new to me that it is the largest e-commerce portal
