ByIndia.com puts itself up for auction on eBay
Around an year back, ByIndia announced free participation to its $5 million sweepstakes for anyone who registers on their site. They also claimed to be “India’s fastest growing search engine and social networking site”.
Boy, have things changed over the last year or what.
Today, they announced that the site has been put up for auction at eBay.
The starting bid has been set at $0.5 million and you can follow the auction (and place your own bid) here.
I guess, we’ll soon have to start our own equivalent of the deadpool.

I wonder if these are just one-off or a beginning of a bigger downfall.

Today is the first time I heard about them. It seems like they had pretty wild times last year with the traffic and something seriously bad happened in Sep 07.
Their current traffic is a bit more than ours and also more than desimartini. $0.5M is cheaper, if someone was to follow HT’s footsteps.

To add - surprisingly the site gets a lot of traffic from Philipines, Bulgaria and Indonesia than India.

@gaurav It looks like the company that was financing them ran upon some rough times–look up Web2 Corp on the American Storck Exchange and see what’s happened to their stock price in the last year.
Talk about your wild rides. I signed up for their e-mail a while back because they had a “Win $5 Million USD” contest going on. I didn’t win, but since the payout was over thirty or forty years, the dollar may be so much weaker by then that the winner only gets enough to buy himself a cup of tea at a cafe somewhere.
