Expedia comes to India

LiveMint has a good story on the latest developments and updates from the online travel industry in India.

A few excerpts:

Expedia, the worlds largest online travel portal, plans to begin India operations early next year. Meanwhile, Travelocity, which started taking hotel bookings from March this year, will start selling airline tickets from December this year.

Meanwhile,  venture funded Indian travel portals admit losing money and hope to become profitable in the next 2-3 years. This is in-line with Helion Ventures VC Ashish Gupta’s interview with ContentSutra.
