TringMe: Free click to call minus the middleman

October 15, 2007 · Posted in India Web 2.0

tme.pngInternet based click-to-call services like Jangl, Jaxtr etc. are used by a large number of blogs and websites to receive free calls and voicemails, which can be made easily by the blog audience using the widget on the blogs. TringMe is yet another such service. Albeit with some difference.

While the other services act as a middleman (you click on their widget, then their service will call you back on your phone and connect with the blog owner’s phone), TringMe eliminates the need for the phone, for both - the caller as well as the receiver. A blog visitor can use TringMe’s Flash widget to make a direct call, which the blogger can choose to receive via phone, GTalk or email. As of now, the service offers the ability for users to leave voicemails only. However, the provision for making calls via the widget is in the works.

While the difference between Jangl, Jaxtr etc. and TringMe was quite evident to me, I wasnt sure about how TringMe is different from the GizmoProject. After some additional digging, I found that Gizmo requires you to install a plugin to make calls.

So, I guess TringMe is apparently the only service out there, which provide true web based telephony service - without any downloads or anything. You can leave me a VM using the widget below.

The few questions I had for the founders:

1) How do they plan to prevent abuse of the service ?

2) What is the revenue model for the service ? I’m guessing this may come in the form of premium calling plans etc.

Overall, I love the service — it provides an effortless way for a user to make a call / leave a voicemail for the website owner. Increases the chances of greater interactivity with almost no overhead for the user.

The one gripe I currently have with it is that I did not see a way to change the registered email id. So, once you have setup an account and then decide to receive calls on another email id, currently, there doesnt seem to be a way to accomplish this. But then, implementing this shouldnt be a difficult job.

Pranav, Thank you for reviewing us and feedback. I agree that we missed email changing feature in TringMe and you will definitely see it in near future.

For abuse, I belive we have a very good solution. However, I can not share those details quite yet but will keep our blog updated.
