InterviewUp - interview question and answers repository
InterviewUp is a new Web 2.0 site with the goal of becoming the go-to site for users to find, share, ask and answer job interview related questions.
Why Web 2.0 ? Because, it combines and leverages Web 2.0 concepts of a wiki and social voting (ala Digg). When you sign up with the site, you can search for interview related questions for a specific topic or subject (eg. say HR or marketing questions). Along the same lines as Digg, you can vote for the questions you found interesting. You can also view the answer to a question (if it has been answered). Dont like the answer ? Not a problem. Just edit the answer and add your own input. The answer mechanism is wiki based and so any registered user can edit the answer. You can also bookmark the questions you find interesting.
Of course, you can add your own questions and the answers to those questions too.
Overall, the concept and implementation seem pretty interesting to me. However, i can see two potential problems with site:
1) While usage of tags is the Web 2.0 way of categorizing things, I see a problem with not having categories on the site. Several questions can fall through the crack due to spelling mistakes, differences in spelling or use of abbrevations. This may make it difficult to locate all the questions on a related topic.
So, I questioned Dipesh, one of the team members about this. As per him,
“We wanted to cover all the career streams. Categorization in groups and subgroups and maintaining it would have been not very straightforward. So, we used the Web 2.0 approach just like how Flickr.com does - using Tags. So, the quickest and easiest way to search for any particular type of questions is to directly type it into the Search Box which is available on the top on every page. ”
2) While the wiki style editing of answers is a great idea, it also presents a different problem - who decides the correct answer ? It is likely that a user may view his answer as being correct and may end up editing an existing answer, which might have been more appropriate. Additionally, even though the site has a CAPTCHA in place for deterring spammers, I hope it does work as intended, and keep spammers at bay.
Online jobs is the most popular and the most competitive vertical in the Indian online industry. And there is definitely an unmet demand for such a job interview related questions and answers site. Lets see how well InterviewUp taps into this market.
While the site is still in beta, they’ve provided a special registration page for StartupDunia readers. You can register here.
