What would be exit strategy for Indian matrimonial sites ?
Just like online dating in the US, online matrimony has become a huge, successful market in India. BharatMatrimony, Shaadi - all have been tremendously successful in monetizing their efforts and have become household names.
I wonder though - what would be a successful exit strategy for these matrimonial sites ?
Although hugely successful, they may not be great acquisition targets for portals like Yahoo India or MSN India because:
(1) Online matrimony may not gel with the overall long term strategy of these portals
(2) They already have existing partnerships with these matrimonial sites
This leaves the only other viable alternative - go public. The same route that Naukri took.
What do you think ? Is a Shaadi.com IPO and Bharatmatrimony.com IPO the only exit for these companies ? Or a possible acquisition may still be a feasibility ?
