Pinkvilla, online community for Indian women

June 26, 2007 · Posted in India Web 2.0, reviews

pvillalogo.pngPinkvilla is an new, online community targeting the Indian Woman. As with any other site whose target audience is women, PinkVilla users can share beauty tips, participate in celeb gossip, track latest fashion trends and discuss any and all other feminine related topics. Just as the name suggests, the site has a pink theme, evangelized by PopSugar and Glam in the US. The site relies on User Generated content (UGC) - users sign up and can contribute an article, a story, a beauty tip or almost anything that falls into one of the predefined categories. You can also invite friends to join your network or add any of the existing users to your social network.

PinkVilla uses Drupal as its CMS and the founders have done a great job at customizing the design and the layout for the site (there is room for improvement though - probably a touch of professional design will do wonders in making the site more sleek). They have some good content already in place and plan to expand to cover additional topics as the site grows in popularity. Monetization is currently using Google Adsense and the site is currently bootstrapped by the founders.

Pinkvilla will face some stiff competition from TV18 owned IndiWo and StyleKandy. None the less, just like PopSugar came out of nowhere to become one of the leading destinations for US women, PinkVilla may usurp the others to become a hot hangout for Indian women.

What is the business model of this site or any user generated content for that matter.

    Hey Pranav

Thanks for reviewing our site. We are planning to polish the UI for a better look and feel.

I would also like to note that the differentiating factor between http://www.pinkvilla.com and other competing sites like http://www.stylekandy.com is the community touch to it.

    Thanks Again

Being a drupal fan i was pretty excited when i saw the site uses Drupal to do a SNS. But on the visiting it more like a simple install which still requires a lot of polising …. dissapointed.

I hope they improve over time ….
