MingleBox - Sequoia family affair hits Silicon Valley

May 11, 2007 · Posted in India Social Networking, India Web 2.0, VC India

Several prominent Silicon Valley bloggers seem to have noticed about the family angle in the MingleBox - Sequoia deal.

What family angle you may ask ?

Well, Kavita Iyer, CEO founder of MingleBox, is the wife of Sequoia India MD, Sandeep Singhal.

Update: Kamla has an exclusive interview with Kavita Iyer on the recent funding announcement

Got curious about the comments here and did some snooping around :) Here is what I found out - the company has a ‘committment’ of $7mm but the first tranche is $2-3 mm and the rest will come in based on performance. Assuming that the the family angle played into the situation is being too simplistic, it must have been an arm length transaction as is usual in such situations. Whether SN succeeds in India or not is an other discussion.
