Moser Baer has created a stir by introducing Hindi movie DVD’s for Rs. 34 and VCD’s for Rs. 28. And now shaken up competitors are following suit - T-Series has cut DVD prices to Rs. 45 and is offering 3-for-75 Rs. combo. Ultra also slashed prices of DVD’s to Rs. 45.
I wonder how this will affect the online DVD rental companies ? For now, Moser Baer & co. are offering these amazingly low prices for old Hindi movie titles only. However, its only a matter of time before they start doing the same for new Hindi titles and probably a subset of English titles too ?
Assuming that it may be a possibility, I’m pretty sure 70mm, CatchFlix and the other online DVD rental companies are also closely monitoring Moser Baer’s moves.
Update: Just came across this story that exactly addresses the issue I raise above - how this will affect the DVD rental market.
