TRAI efforts to digitize Indian television

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has kickstarted discussions with broadcasters, cable operators, equipment manufacturers, industry and technology experts to lay the road map for digitalisation of television services across the country.

Following the consultation process, TRAI is likely to set up a deadline for complete digitalisation of television services in India. This implies all cable operators in India will have to change their existing infrastructure within this time-frame. At present, only DTH and CAS platforms use digital infrastructure.
